Cafe Neon celebrations on Zakynthos

Cafe Neon owners kissing in TavernaWe were heading north from Zakynthos town by car, on our way to see the famous shipwreck that’s viewed from cliffs overlooking a bay. A famous touristic attraction of Zakynthos this wreck is the subject of many postcards depicting the island.Taking our time and driving through the centre of the island we stopped at a small village called ‘Agios Leon’ Seeking the only Café Neon open during siesta we entered this typical village shop come café. My Greek is poor my understanding is limited but I could see that hi jinks were defiantly going on nothing bad just enthusiastic humour, laugher and giggles, jokes and then the new tourists walked in through the door. Laughter continued yet we still couldn’t workout what it was all about. Though we did grin as typical tourists and despite the language barrier we were included in the calibrations. It was if somebody had proposed marriage.

Sitting in the corner we were told by our host, in broken English ‘This is my Man’ and gave him another Kiss for our camera. Then off he was packed with his mates to join the village fate. (Our next stop) I now that the Greeks are very hospitable but the speed of inclusion and the invitations to the village fate meant we never got to the north of the island until the next day.
