At first glance you’d quickly dismiss Igoumenitsa as a transit town with an international port, this is not exactly true. Although Igoumenitsa is not a tourist destination as such it does attract the inquisitive traveller and Greek holiday maker, as well as being a business hub for commerce between east and western Europe. Igoumenitsa the nearest Greek port that serves Italy and the rest of Europe recently completed a multi million Euro upgrade to its new port facilities and services. However this new investment has a detrimental impact on the charm of Igoumenitsa town. There is know a stark difference between the old and new this includes the cost of goods and services. In the new port area the increased price of accommodation reflects the cost of this new development. Yet by walking less than a mile into the older part of the port you’ll find the best priced and still conveniently located accommodation. All of the older more established hotels are found here interspersed with lots of banks, ATM’s and ticket agencies shops. If a comparison could be made between ports. I would say that Igoumenitsa is a step above Ancona in Italy. Where Ancona is very much a port town Igoumenitsa has a quaintness all of its own. All you have to do is explore.

Directly behind the hotel is a paved pedestrian walkway that leads you into the older part of Igoumentisa. This hotel is used as a regular stop over for travellers that frequently use the Egnatia highway serving south-eastern Europe and Turkey.

Jolly Hotel: Can be found 1200m north of the international terminal building, directly opposite the old port area that serves Corfu. It’s a budget hotel for the backpacker and an ideal departure point for returning to Europe, transiting to Athens or visiting Corfu. Its within walking distance of all port facilities, the old town and the night-life along the waterfront that extends further along the eastern seashore. Judging by its website it has a 50mb broadband internet connection but its worth checking before booking.
