When you think you’ve had your fill of the fantastic and beautiful sights in Greece, you’ll find there’s plenty more to do. Throughout the country, there are various sights to visit, beaches to swim, shops and museum to go to. A sports bum or a museum enthusiast, Greece and its culture has lots to offer you.
There are a lot of things to do while you’re in Greece. Athens have some of the most famous sights like the Acropolis, the National Archaeological Museum and the Benaki Musem. You can also visit the Kallimarmaron stadium where the ancient Panathenaic Games were held.
During summer, the beaches should be on the top of the list. Beaches in Crete, Santorini and Mykonos offer the best beach parties in Greece and are one of the top places to be in Europe.
Aside from swimming and soaking during summer, there’s also the Hellenic Festival. It celebrates the performance arts , theatre, musical and dance. Athens is one of the most fascinating cities in the world. With its rich history and diverse culture, you’ll surely have fun touring it’s sites and seeing the ancient structures that has defines Athens as the centre of a great ancient civilization. But no matter how beautiful the place is does not mean that you’ll have a fun time without some basic preparation. Your trip will always depend on how well you packed and how well you planned your trip.
Remember that no matter how great Athens is, it’s still not your home town and therefore, you’ll not to be familiar with Athens as you are with other cities. In order to take full advantage of a short break in Athens here are some suggestions to get you started. It’s important to have a good idea of the main places to visit in the city. So here are some scenic suggestions that should be considered whilst there.
Visit the Acropolis: No visit to Athens will be complete without going to Acropolis. This prominent hill in Athens is more than just a landmark. It has been honored as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Acropolis is the site of the ancient fortified town of Athens, which date back to as early as the Late Bronze Age. The acropolis is also the site of the country’s best buildings from the Greek Classical Age. In this hill tourist can find the Parthenon, the Erectheion and the Temple of Athena Nike. The city of Athens is ideal for any type of holiday. It’s also becoming popular as a short city break during the winter. First and foremost, Athens is the historic capital of Greece and hence the centre of its culture. Saying that Athens is also a modern city with a thriving night-life that can cater for all tastes. Getting to know about Greece is getting to know about life and culture at the same time. And with Athens being a major city, it truly needs a special mention for tourists visiting for the first time.

Athens is a city with about 3.7 million inhabitants. This city is also considered the birthplace of ‘The whole nation’ and therefore, also the birthplace of Western civilization. This metropolitan city is bounded by mountains on three sides namely, Mt. Ymettos, Mt. Parnitha and Mt. Pendeli. It’s amazing how each island of the Cyclades is so completely different. There are different cultures, accommodation options, prices and paces. It’s like having seven holidays in one.
Starting at Athens is a great place to get you in the travelling mood and for most hoppers, unless you have a private jet or yacht, fairly necessary. Gap year takers, volunteers and lifelong travellers are waiting for the next flight to the four corners of the earth and Athens is a stop off point. So there’s an interesting mix of Canadians, Americans, Aussies, Norwegians, Brits, you name it. The universal spoken language is English so thumbs up, and because people are generally only there for a night or two, there’s a slight “no tomorrow” party atmosphere.

Greece has so much to offer, there is plenty to do and see. The first thing that probably comes to mind when thinking of Greece is of course Athens being the birthplace of the human civilisation. Athens has some of the top archaeological sites in Europe and boasts amazing historical museums and monuments like The Acropolis.
