Greece has an ancient culture that extends along its extensive coastlines and islands. This historic wealth and diversity comes from centuries of trading within the Mediterranean. When looking for a unique island to go to on your Greece vacation, you might want to try out the volcanic island of Santorini. This island is part of the Cyclades group of Greek islands and is located between the Ios and Anafi islands. Santorini has become quite popular for its stunning views, beautiful sunsets as well as its fantastic beaches.
The small island of Santorini contains a stunning variety of villages and landscapes. There are traditional architectures that can still be seen from its various small villages particularly in the village of Mesa Gonia. Ammoudi bay is the little fishing port of Oia, the most northerly village on the Island of Santorini. Situated below Oia it takes a walk of 300+ steps down from Oia village to reach it. This tiny port with its colourful fishing boats and reputable fish tavernas is a must see destination.
Ammoudi Bay was briefly covered in previous posts “Santorini Trekking” and “How to travel to Santorini like a Jet Setter”.
From an artist’s point of view, Ammoudi Bay has perfect light. Its lack of haze. (Due mostly from the continual cool breeze that blows overhead) Leaves Ammoudi Bay with a clarity of colour.
