This has resulted in very unique stylized coast line that is home to some of the most luxurious accommodation in Greece.

Starting in Athens, there are a number great places to stay. After a day of sightseeing and different activities, surely you would like to come home to a very homely and comfortable environment.

There are several hotels that would be great places to stay. Hotels in Athens have world class choices. King George Palace was a legend since 1936. the classical King George Palace has been home to kings, princes, presidents and Athenians alike. It has been ranked among the top 100 European hotels.

Grande Bretagne Hotel has been representing the essence of hospitality in Greece for more than 134 years. This hotel was the host too the world sports occasion of the Olympic games that took place in the country of its origin in 2004. For all guests the Hotel offers a special treat with the impressive spa area, designed to relax and refresh body and spirit.

Hotels in Athens provide spectacular view to Acropolis and its beautiful sites. If you feel to stay near the sea and the coast, then Mykonos would be the place to go. When in Mykonos, you can experience a luxurious vacation by staying in the Cavo Tagoo hotel. This hotel is built on a Cliffside and located only a few meters away from the town center.

Another unique resort in Mykonos, would be the Kivotos Club Hotel. It has been built respecting the environment and traditions of the Mykonos and is located in the magnificent Bay of Omos. They have five swimming pools, a private beach with water sports facilities, perfectly equipped fitness and health club, squash court and a play room.

The Myconoian Ambassador Hotel and Myconian Imperial hotel are some of the wonderful and romantic jet-set destinations in the world. It has private beaches and their rooms have balconies providing spectacular and romantic view of he ocean.

The oldest and most simple form of residence in the Aegean is called cave houses. They are traditional buildings which are found inside the rocks with a dome like roof, narrow facade, and narrow but long spaces inside. Santorini, another beautiful place in Greece is known for its cave houses and people from all over the world.

These beautifully decorated Cave houses have been transformed into hotel rooms, and a lot of tourists have been visiting Santorini to stay in these famous cave houses. According to the tradition, the cave houses were created by ship crews in order to survive and have a place of residence inside them despite the steepness of the cliff. Some others say that some cave houses were also used as stables for mules and other animals.

Cave houses are divided into two parts. The front part which is the kitchen and living room. The second part is the bedroom which is at the back. The two areas are separated by a wall with openings to let the air and light to enter the back of the cave. Another certain technique that the Santorini people still use today in house building is applying mud on the walls along with some small part of red rocks that are added for the reinforcement of the mixture.

Your choice of accommodations and places to stay during your Greece vacation will make everything worthwhile and picture perfect.

When island hopping, one of the islands that you must not leave out is Mykonos. Mykonos is an important Greek island that’s part of the Cyclades group and located in the middle of the Aegean Sea. Mykonos has been a notable destination for tourists and is considered one of the most recognized travel meccas in Greece. Being one of the most touristed islands in this country, you should expect lots of excitement day or night.

There are many ways to get to the island of Mykonos. Getting there by air is also possible if coming from the Greek mainland. Mykonos has its own airport and there are flights to the island regularly by way or either Athens or Thessaloniki. At the height of the summer season when the greatest number of tourists arrive to take part in the excitement of Mykonos, there are also charter flights available coming from various European routes.

The other means of getting to the island of Mykonos is by sea. There are two choices available for tourists who wish to get to the island by sea. They can either go for the regular ferry that can carry even rental cars as well as buses. But this might be choosing a longer trip as the voyage may take three and a half hours to get to Mykonos. There are also the faster high speed catamarans that serve daily from terminals in Piraeus and Paros, similar with the bigger ferries.

While on the island of Mykonos, there are many ways to get around and explore the island. The island operates an extensive bus network that can take the tourist from almost any point in the island. For the more adventurous spirits, there are also scooters as well as ATV’s available on the island to get to places one wishes without having to stick to schedules. For convenience, there are also taxis that go around the island to serve tourists if the need for them arises.

There are many attractions and places of interests all around the island. The windmills in Mykonos are considered landmarks and should be worth seeing. There is also an area in the city of Mykonos called Little Venice which has become famous for its wonderful balconies. The Archaeological Museum of Mykonos offers tourists a glimpse of the island’s past through the relics found there. There are also artists who live in Mykonos whose works may also be worth taking a look at.

But what really most tourists look forward to when going to this wonderful island is heading to the popular beaches of Mykonos. There are a lot that tourists can choose from. Agios Ioannis Beach is a small enclave of a beach that offers a fantastic opportunity for snorkeling and exploring underwater sea life. It is one of the beaches in Mykonos that rarely gets crowded since it is not one of those commercialized beaches found somewhere else on the island.

For beaches known for the excitement brought by the crowds, one choice would be Paradise Beach. It is a crowded beach usually for tourists under 30 years old. The beach contains large pebbly sand that is convenient to go to especially on windy days. Other choices for a complete Mykonos Greece vacation include Psarou Beach, Elia Beach, Paranga Beach and Ornos Beach.

If you’re looking for fun in the summer. Then Paradise and Super Paradise beach on the Island of Mykonos is probable the best place to go. Located next to a campsite within yards of the beach this hedonistic enclave has a reputation for partying. If you’ve arrived in Mykonos port you can take a local bus to ‘Platys Glalos’ in the south then hop on a tourist caique that will take you around the headland directly onto Paradise beach. The campsite is behind amongst the trees.

Where to stay: Everyone that parties tend to use the campsite (But don’t expect much sleep at the height of the season) its party, party remember… That said the music tends to liven up in the evening after the days heat has gone and the mornings are fairly quiet. Paradise Beach Campsite is directly behind and has plenty of shade. Backpackers pitch their tents amongst the trees to avoid the heat of the day. Hammocks and makeshift washing-lines are all over.

The facilities: Are very good. Plenty of communal showers and washing facilities. There are rented lockers built into concrete walls with electricity to charge up your devices. (Great idea!) They also do Tours around the island. The are plenty of adverts all over offering, Sailing, Scuba-diving, Booz Cruise and anything else you can think off and more.

I was there early May ’08 and the season was just getting started, even then there were plenty of American students about. This is truly an international beach with European, Scandinavian and every other nationality represented too. I had visions of it been tacky but actually it’s a well organised slick operation that is run efficiently and friendly the results produced a regular following of people that come back year after year to break the shackles of the 9 – 5 grind. The atmosphere is friendly, not cynical or clicky, new faces are welcome…

If you’re young at heart… Like to party… Can control your drink… and switched on to your surroundings then Paradise Beach is for you… Oh and take a friend.

There’s a Pelican after my dinner, he’s just been evicted for stealing but now he’s back. Whilst shelters on Mykonos from the ‘Meltemi’ wind ‘I acquire an unwelcome friend. Standing in the bowels of a ship waiting for the creeks, groans and rumble to end, a cavernous door drops like a drawbridge. Signalling my arrival in Mykonos. Sea spray flies across the harbour wall in brilliant sunshine, as we wait for our ship to be tethered.

The “Meltemi” trade wind has been blowing for days disrupting ferry schedules and fraying nerves. The ferries are the lifeblood of the islands yet this “Meltemi” wind can disrupt everyone’s best-laid plans.

Dodging the scrum I make my way along the harbour edge into the old town. On the west side of Mykonos town is the little Venice district. From its little square overlooking the sea you can see Mykonos’s famous windmills and watch the sun go down.

Sometimes a nations idisycrnicues are so singular that you associate them with that country, as soup and bread roll is a starter in Britain, Ouzo & olives are a meza in Greece.

After ordering my fish and whilst taking in the scene, Petros the pelican arrives with a posse of camera toting girls, seeking refuge in the restaurants kitchen he heads strait for my grilled fish; down on one snap, with a mad chef banging his pots and pans to flush this bird out. Petros (No fool) scoots between the restaurants tables into the next open door and another restaurants kitchen. The mother gently backs Petros out with her open apron ‘it being bigger than him’.

Mykonos, synonymous with seasonal winds and windmills has been the home of a family of pelicans since 1958. Found on a remote island near Delos by fisherman (Notorious superstitious due to Delos’s mythological status) they brought the young pelican back to Mykonos where the local inhabitants took cared of it. Mykonos is on the great white Pelican’s migration route from the Danube delta in the Black Sea to the Nile delta in Egypt.

Petros is back and all is forgiven it seems. Superstar of the bird world he might be. But watching him calculating the odds of his next escapade is quite disconcerting. Birdbrain so alien to my own it’s a wonder we share the same planet. Yet being honked at by a bird that has a knack of looking right through you to his food is very disconcerting. That cross eyed look moments before he pounces is a warning of things to come. This time I’m armed…
