Greece has more than 2,000 islands and islets. Only 169 of them are inhabited. Some of the best places include the Cyclades, the Dodecanese, the Ionian, the Sporades and the Northern area of Greece. In fact anywhere in Greece is a sight to behold when arriving by sea.
So how do you travel in style by [...]

The weather and sea state is always changeable in Greece. Hours before whilst crossing from Patmos to Leros. Our rigging began to groan in rhythm with the sea; outside the shelter of the Islands a rolling sea had enveloped ‘Almira’. Although our sails held us steady our hull rocked back and forth, a motion that [...]

Carnayo Gold is a picturesque taverna on the waterfront in Mongonisi. Located in a small harbour on the most southerly point of Paxos Island, Carnayo Gold is run by Dimitris and Francesca an Italian from Naples that fell in love with Dimitris and the Island in equal measure. During our sailing trips around Paxos and [...]

Sailing between the islands of Greece is an experience in itself. Out at sea we’re quite alone; the vast openness challenges our senses. Gliding in rhythmic motion with our surroundings in this biggest of big blue I’m transfixed watching Christina drying her hair, as she seeks far horizons. Sailing together for the first time, our [...]

Astakos on the mainland opposite the Ionion Islands is very much an agricultural town. Outside the local hardware stores goat bells are prowdly on display. Its venician style is very similar to the Old part of Corfu town. We’d arrived from Kastos some hours before and became becalmed outside the entrance.
Mooring in Astakos is not [...]

Neilson Activity Holidays are popular in Greece. Their program of combined sail training and flotilla are equally safety conscious and sometimes the benefits exceed the expectations.

Follow a previous post “George’s Taverna in Kalamos Harbour” and “Sailing into the Sunset and how to do it! – Part 4” I came across this video on youTube that demonstrates the support new sailing enthusiasts receive. Anchoring stern to the quay with your lead crew ready to take your line and giving instructions over [...]

Cooped up in our boat for 2 days in the harbour of Kastos, left us with itchy feet. The rain ceased yesterday but the northerly wind was still blowing. All colour is gone now! Only wind swept gray surrounds us. Our harbour although sheltered; occasional gusts clatter our rigging.
This morning we walked over to the [...]
